Mountains to Sea Trail

North Carolina’s Mountains to Sea Trail stretches 1,175 miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the Outer Banks, crossing the Great Balsams, Craggies, and Black Mountains. Approximately 320 miles of the MST passes through the Pisgah-Nantahala National Forest. Only the trail sections in the Smokies, Mount Mitchell State Park, Linville Gorge Wilderness, Woods Mountain Roadless Area, and the portions immediately adjacent to the Parkway are protected; most of the remaining trail corridor is open to logging.
