Cheoah Bald
Home to 4,000 acres of old-growth forest and 10 miles of the Appalachian Trail, Cheoah Bald is the grandstand of the Appalachians. At 5,062 feet, Cheaoh offers sweeping views of the Smokies and Lake Fontana. The Appalachian Trail’s Sassafras Gap shelter is a popular spot for thru-hikers. The Bartram Trail also crosses Cheoah, and the Nantahala River runs through the spectacular Nantahala Gorge along its southeast border.
