Special Places
Joyce Kilmer / Slickrock
The Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock Wilderness is one of the most ancient and biologically diverse forests in the East. Protecting parcels to the north and south of the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness will connect national forest lands to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nearly 1,000 acres of old-growth near Yellowhammer Branch could be added to the ancient forests of Kilmer-Slickrock. The creeks of Kilmer-Slickrock support Southern Appalachian brook trout and several rare aquatic species.
