The Appalachian Trail leads to the summit of Wesser Bald, and a viewing platform on the old Wesser Bald fire tower provides outstanding 360-degree views. To the north, the A.T. passes a trail shelter and descends to the Nantahala River at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. The Wesser Creek Trail—an alternate A.T. path—splits just north of Wesser Bald and drops very steeply via switchbacks into a deep cove with cliff headwalls. Big trees and old-growth forests abound on Wesser.
